  37. Remember accrdeon.pat? It was noisy, off key, bad looping and bad release.
  38. It was a beta version with one sample.

  40. I have redone it after finally mastering all the patch format (including the
  41. new parameters of v.1.10). If you want to be surprised, go download it.
  42. It's on archive.epas.utoronto.ca in pub/pc/ultrasound/submit under filename:

  45. The old version in pub/pc/ultrasound/sounds/patches/files should be removed.
  46. (Anasyn1 should also be removed because they are buggy... I will redo them.
  47. Keep in mind that they were done back in november...)

  49. Anyway, back to accrdeon: it is noise free, no "ultraclick", include 2
  50. good accordian samples with wind sound. It is much better than the included
  51. accordn.pat. Everything is very close to a real accordian (well the loop is
  52. a bit flat, but since i'm still editing with hexadecimal, it'll stay like
  53. that for now. It is much better anyway than accordn).

  55. More patches on the way, but i want your feedback! At one point i had about
  56.

  58. 40 patches but erased them all because i was not satisfied. You want 16 bit
  59. without noise and click free patches and that's what you'll get.

  61. For percussions i have a problem: to which key do i assign them?

  63. Also, for patch which are not replacements for Gravis patches, how will they
  64. be included in ultrasnd.ini? 
  65.  
  66. Last, all people who were interested in developping a patch editor, contact
  67. me asap. I know that two people from sweden were interested (one beeing
  68. Lars Ljungberg) and some from the US (Michael Chen and others). I have
  69. sent some stuff to several of you, but i have not seen much feedback, so
  70. i think a mail reflector would be in order... Dave? A list for programmers

  93. reason I wrote miditest :-)

  104.     I have PlayMidi  4.03 - And it works quite well. For one piece, at least.. then when it exits the graphics mode back to the blue screen, it locks up. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  120. I'm a user who doesn't have FTP access so I use DEC's FTPmail to get
  121. files.  Recently, I've noticed that archive.epas.utoronto.ca seems to
  122. have dropped of the face of the Internet.  In particular, whenever the
  123. DEC mailserver tries a domain name lookup on it, it fails.  I usually
  124. end up snarfing my files off wuarchive instead.  Of course, I can't
  125. get the recent submit stuff.  If anybody who shepards the epas archive
  126. would like to look into this, all of us lowly FTPmail users would be
  127. very grateful.  I'm not sure what's wrong, but if somebody wants a
  128. transcript of what the DEC server spits back, I'd be glad to provide
  129. it.

  144. second thoughts.. Does anyone have a comparison sheet between these
  145. 2? Also, is the GUS fully AdLib and SB compatible?

  158. I installed the new five 2.01 disks Saturday, and they seem
  159. to work wonderfully.  Then I installed the SBOS 2.04 files
  160. as directed, i.e., by unzipping them into my ultrasnd/sbos
  161. directory. (OK, I had to copy ultrainit.sys up to the ultrasnd
  162. directory, because there was an old one there.  This may not
  163. have been necessary, since it was the same size and thus
  164. probably the same thing.)

  168. After I installed SBOS 2.04 like this I get the following
  169. error messages when SBOS is fired up:
  170.     
  171.     Invalid (c:\ultrasound\sbos\sboslib.sbs) SBOS patch library

  173.     Error on load of patch library(C:\ultrasound/sbos/sboslib.sbos)
  174.  
  175. I don't get the audio ``Ultrasound installed'' message like usual,
  176. but perhaps it is working since playmidi seems to work fine after
  177. this.

  179. Oh, yes, I don't know if this is related, but when the following
  180. line in config.sys:

  182.     DEVICE=C:\...\ultrainit.sys ULTRASOUND=...
  183.  
  184. is processed, it spits out the message
  185.  
  186.     Ultra Sound initialized to 1.02.
  187.  
  188. Now, maybe this is OK, but the version is supposed to be 2.01 (or
  189. 2.02).  I did delete my old ultrasound directory before installing
  190. the new one.

  192. Does any one know why I might be getting this message and, more
  193. importantly, how to fix or at least further diagnose it?  Thanks for
  194. any help!

  198. P.S.  As an aside, I found it interesting that the install program
  199. modified my autoexec.bat file to call sbos.bat, even though I
  200. later fire up windows.  I commented this line out since it seemed
  201. unnecessary and maybe even harmful.  Unless I'm missing something
  202. here, the Gravis folks might want to have their install software
  203. scan the autoexec.bat file and try to see if it fires up windows
  204. before inserting the sbos.bat file.  It may well hurt nothing with
  205. the new version, though.

  229.   I am interested in finding out if there is an SDK for the GUS. I have very
  230. little experience with C, but would like to get a GUS SDK for C anyway. Most of
  231. my programming experience is with Turbo Pascal, so if there is a GUS SDK
  232. written in Turbo Pascal, that would be the best choice for me. We are using
  233. Modula-2 for our course work at Uni, but I won't hold my breath for any
  234. Modula-2 libraries, since although Modula-2 is *supposedly* the successor to
  235. Pascal, I am am yet to discover one shred of evidence  to support this claim.

  247. I am interested in getting together (over Internet) to write a device
  248. driver for our beloved GUS. Anybody SERIOUSLY interested in doing this
  249. should E-Mail me. I will have access to a GUS sdk as well as an OS/2
  250. sdk. Don't look any further into this. I will not have the time to start
  251. this until summer.

  254. in LISP, I think I could do anything.
